After a thrilling week of football that
saw United win emphatically at Dens Park, and score a last minute winner
in midweek. This Saturday the excitement continues at home to Tayside
rivals St Johnstone.
The three o'clock kick off, reintroduces the sides for
the first time since United's heartbreaking Scottish Cup Final loss just over
four months ago. With the Saints successful in four of the five matches between
the two last season, United will be as hungry as ever to record a win against
the bogey team of last year. However, sitting top of the league and on an un
defeated run of five games, United will be going into the game high in
confidence. Some of the football played in the second half at Dens, looked like
a carbon copy of United when they were at their attacking best last season. The
Terrors will be looking to continue this impressive run while pushing
to remain top of the Scottish Premiership.
Meanwhile, St Johnstone have had a reasonably solid
start to the season. The Saints have picked up three wins from seven games. Once
again the Perthshire team have an aggressive and solid back four, with Tommy
Wright's men only conceding eight goals this season.
Now that Ryan Dow and Stuart Armstrong are fully fit
again, United almost have a full squad to choose from. Full backs Mark Wilson
and Conor Townsend still remain injured. However, Sean Dillon and Keith Watson
have very much proved to be a solid and reliable fullback pairing so
far this season. John Souttar who celebrated his 18th birthday on Thursday
is still out with an ankle injury.
The Saints are without the influential striker Steven
Maclean, who is expected to be on the out the side until December with a knee
injury. On loan centre forward, Brian Graham is unable to play for either team,
due to his loan spell agreements.
As United look to continue with the brilliant
momentum that they have gathered, Saturday will be another hugely important
match in this, so far exciting season. With The Saints history of bringing a
large amount of away fans to Tannadice, once again, there should be a cracking
atmosphere inside the stadium for part one of the Tayside derby.
