In terms of important matches that can shape an entire season, Monday night’s game in Lanarkshire could certainly be one of them. United travel to New Douglas Park to face Hamilton for just the second time this season and whilst the Accies sit one point ahead of United in the table, the Terrors will be desperate for the win that would see them climb up to third place.
Despite an overall frustrating result against Partick Thistle, United should certainly take some confidence from the performance having been the better side for the majority of the second half, only a poor twenty minutes before half time proved crucial.
With the departure of Alex Neil to Norwich City interim manager Martin Canning takes charge of Hamilton for the first time. Canning will be hoping to replicate the same kind of form shown under his predecessor whose Accies side had lost just twice since early December 2014.
When the two sides met at Tannadice, last September, a thrilling first half that produced four goals and two red cards saw the teams share a point in an exciting 2-2 draw.
Once again, United will be without defenders John Souttar and Callum Morris whilst Mario Bilate also remains on the sidelines.
Hamilton will be without striker Andy Ryan and influential captain Ziggy Gordon, however, Grant Gillespie has proved a more than able replacement in their 5-1 and 1-0 victories over Motherwell and St Johnstone respectively.
Whilst Hamilton sit ahead of United on the league table by just one point, Wednesday night’s match will be as crucial as ever for McNamara’s men to collect the three points and climb further up the table.
Come on United!
