This afternoon, former Rangers fan favorite Nacho Novo announced to the media that he had a deal that would take him to the east coast of America.
The 35 year old Spaniard will now ply his trade with the Carolina Railhawks in the North American Soccer League.
Throughout Novo’s career thus far, he arguably experienced his most prolific period in 2004-2010 with Rangers FC. In his time at the Glasgow club, Novo featured in 179 matches netting an impressive tally of 70 goals.
With many of Novo’s spectacular goals proving to be memorable ones for Gers fans, he undoubtedly has a special place in the heart of every Rangers fan that regularly witnessed his gutsy and technically brilliant displays across Scotland and Europe. Some of these memorable goals include his sensational 30 yard Scottish Cup final volley against Falkirk in 2009 and his highly pressured penalty that he dispatched to send Rangers into the final of the 2008 UEFA cup.
Novo also enjoyed spells at Dundee, Sporting Gijon, Legia Warsaw, Greenock Morton and most recently with English League 2 side Carlisle United, playing in 322 matches and scoring 132 goals across his cultured career.
Novo commented on his American adventure, “The reason I chose to go to America is that it is a nice country.”
“I have played with numbers of clubs around Europe. I want to prove myself over there like I did in Scotland.”
“I’m 35 and a very lucky guy. I have had a great career and this is a great opportunity. I will grasp it with both hands.”
Novo has also commented on a possible coaching career once his career ends most likely in America. Novo said, “Hopefully (in America) I can get a few coaching opportunities.”
Novo has penned a one and a half year deal with the Railhawks and will hope to quickly adapt to life in the bustling city of Carolina from his quiet home in Jordanhill in Glasgow.
