Liam Henderson Player Review
Over recent weeks a new young Scottish player has hit the headlines for a string of impressive performances for runaway Scottish league winners Celtic.
The 17 year old Midfielder made his first Celtic senior start on March the 13th 2014 in a 3-0 away win against Kilmarnock in which he was praised manager by Neil Lennon who commented on the youngsters performance saying “I thought he grew into the game and had a superb debut. Credit to him and the academy because I think we’ve got a good player there.”
Liam scored his first team goal on the 26th of March in a title clincher against Liam’s dad’s old club Partick Thistle at Firhill. Liam’s goal was made after two excellent dummies by Leigh Griffifths and Kris Commons and the ball fell nicely for Henderson to fire past Thistle goalkeeper Paul Gallacher.
Standing at 6 foot already and still growing Liam is strong on the ball and a very good passer but many say he currently lacks the pace to be a more complete player. He has already represented Scotland in the Under 16’s, 17 and 18’s level and scored one goal in the process.
After watching Liam in action against Hearts under 20’s it was obvious to see he was comfortable on the ball and could easily thread out a killer pass. He is also very decisive on the ball and often dictates the tempo of the game. In the Under 20's match the Falkirk born midfielder scored a brilliant goal in which he delicately chipped the ball over the Hearts goalkeeper. Overall it was a brilliant performance by the play maker.
Henderson has been described by many coaches and fans as a box to box midfielder like Frank Lampard and Stuart Armstrong. He has impressive stamina to keep going for the full 90 minutes and it should only improve more as he grows up. Although I have only seen him play twice he has only had one shooting chance in each game and scored on both occasions.
