Arsenal transfer activity
Most Arsenal fans have been impressed with Arsene Wenger’s high-profile transfer targets. Some of these transfer rumours have given us a clear indication that Arsenal are not to be overlooked this season and could mount a huge challenge for this year’s title race.
Noted Transfers:
Just yesterday Arsenal announced the signing of their first of potentially a few high-profile signings Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez’s accepted bid was believed to be in the region of £30-35 million, with the Chile striker given a five year contract at the Emirates. Gunners fans for a long time have been calling out for a world class striker and many believe that Sanchez’s signing is an appropriate player to lead the flowing Arsenal attack.
Wenger has also agreed a deal with Newcastle United for their twenty-eight year old right back. The signing is believed to be around £10million with bonuses added after a certain amount of appearances for the first team. Debuchy who had only been with Newcastle for a year and a half, however, in that reasonably short time he impressed pundits and Wenger with his spirited performances in a poor Newcastle team.
Rumoured transfers:
Arsenal have offered Real Madrid £20million pounds for their defensive-midfielder Sami Khedira. Real have allowed Khedira to discuss contracts with Arsenal and the German midfielder is reportedly demanding £150,000 per week, which would make him the highest earner at the Emirates. Recently London rivals Chelsea have also displayed their interest in the world cup finalist.
Despite weeks of speculation and nothing happening, Arsenal are still interested in QPR striker Loic Remy. The French striker also has clubs such as Tottenham and Newcastle interested in his signature, although there is still a slim chance he will stay at his current club.
Players they could do with:
Arsenal are now a class team with brilliant players all over the pitch. Signing players such as Ozil and Sanchez has shown to teams that they are now looking to spend their money on a title winning team, just as their home-grown players like Jack Wilshire, Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs are at their prime. Although I still think Arsenal are thin at the back and could do with another experienced Centre back somebody reliable, a born leader and makes good decisions, someone like David Luiz? How he is worth more than Alexis Sanchez and Debuchy put together I will never know. However, I do still think Arsenal lack another quality centre back, Wenger should look into signing somebody like Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes. Howedes is a wonderful old fashioned Centre back; he is tremendous at reading the game and shows great composure on the ball as well. If somebody like Howedes is signed by Wenger it will push Mertesaker and Koscielny and neither three will have any certainty of starting. A pressure that makes most players perform to a higher level.
