At 5 o’clock Liverpool announced that striker Mario Balotelli had signed for Liverpool in a £16m transfer from Serie A side AC Milan.
The former Manchester City striker, 24 agreed a long term deal with the Merseyside outfit and will be in the stands for tonights game at the Etihad stadium between his new and old employers.
The Italian left City 17 months ago after scoring 30 goals in 3 seasons. Balotelli last season made 43 appearances for Milan scoring 26 goals in the process, the best scoring tally of his career.
Balotelli announced his signing earlier today on twitter with a, “YNWA come on Liverpool”. He will wear the number 45 jersey this season and admitted to BBC Sport that he had made the wrong decision leaving England in 2013.
The Italian commented on his move, “I’m happy to be back (in England) because I left England and it was a mistake.”
Balotelli who played for both Milan clubs mentioned, “English football is generally better. English football is beautiful.”
Liverpool fans have made it clear that they are delighted with the capture of Balotelli’s signature and hoping that Sturridge and Balotelli will rectify a partnership in a similar mould that Sturridge and the departed Suarez created.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his delight with the signing, “There is no doubting Mario’s ability. He is a world class talent and someone who at such a young age, has vast experience of playing at the highest level.”
Should Rodgers keep a respectable relationship with the striker that has often ruffled a few feathers in his time at clubs, Liverpool will have signed an ideal replacement for their 2013-14 talisman Luis Suarez.
