Same sex marriage is at the forefront of the media a lot, and rightly so. Since the dawn of the human race we have had the ability to love anyone we want. However, the male and female relationship dominated as it is the way forward to reproduce. We got to where we are today by both sexes making children. Wait, isn't this article about marriage? What does sex have to do with it?
Loving someone is different from wanting to expand the human race with them, right? Marriage symbolizes the love between two people. So why should marriage be restricted between anyone?
Religion.
The bible states that 'no man should lie with another man'. For baby making purposes, yeah, this makes sense. We've moved on from then though and with a natural population increase we don't really need more bodies added as badly ad we did before. But let's get onto the subject of love!
Even in ancient Greek times men used to have homosexual tendencies. Not only that but it exists in animals too. Having ruled out the prospect that it's just a new modern thing and actually dates back to centuries ago, why can't we just accept it?
Fear and lack of knowledge are both big factors. Having been told for so long that it's bad people will have a hard time breaking away. With it being so taboo people will always be nervous about finding out about it and don't take the time to understand it's just love..
Time to wake up! Surely in this day and age we can be able to accept two men or two woman holding hands in the street. All out snogging in public isn't too nice or polite yet that goes for anyone in a relationship! The whole 'don't shove it down our throats' is invalid. And by calling it unnatural? Wearing socks is unnatural.
Why oppose gay marriage when it does no one any harm? Surely as humans we all deserve the same rights? Thankfully the UK has legalized gay marriage but just across the water in Ireland they only allow civil unions.
In a way the people who have a problem with two men or women getting married are doing them a favour.
After having vast sums of money spent on a day full of ridiculously big dresses, posh food, overly sized cakes, sickening amounts of flowers, badly decorated receptions and awkward tension between family and friends who don't want to be there is being legally bound for life really worth it?
Then again, it's nice to show off a flashy ring.
