Manchester United midfielders Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera are set to have scans on injuries suffered in a training session.
Both will miss Sunday’s Premier League clash away to Sunderland after they picked up ankle injuries. The Belgian internationals results are expected on Saturday, with Herrera’s unclear.
These injuries see Van Gaal’s squad now missing seven players for this week’s game. However, Van Gaal will be able to welcome back fellow dutch man Robin Van Persie to the squad who missed the opening day defeat at home to Swansea.
Van Gaal commented on Van Persie’s return, “ Robin is ready to play so that is a benefit to the team. I am very happy.”
Defenders Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw are still out this weekend with Antonio Valencia unlikely to be involved in the squad despite training on Friday.
Van Gaal’s latest signing, £16m Argentine Marcus Rojo is also unavailable as he waits for his work permit to come through.
Van Gaal said to BBC sport, “ I have seven injuries, last game it was nine. “It’s a little thin in midfield.”
Manchester United fans and Van Gaal will be hoping that despite these injury set backs they can get back to winning ways against Sunderland today.
