Tomorrow afternoon, 9th place Liverpool travel to Old Trafford in hope of a victory that could see them move up to 6th place. With Brendan Rodger's men searching for a third win in six matches, it is Man United who come into the game in better form, loosing just one game in the last six ties.
United currently sit 3rd place on the table, and a win could see them move within four points of Man City and eight points adrift of Chelsea, at the top of the league.
Liverpool have seemingly struggled to cope with the intense demands of Champions League and Premier League matches in the same week, and so far this year, they've only recorded two Premier League wins in weeks they've played twice.
According to the statistics, the Liverpool defence have been the more solid of the sides, conceding 13 goals in 15 matches. United have repeatedly changed formations, personnel and defensive systems, conceding 17 this season because of the uncertainty.
Due to the sheer amount of money that Van-Gaal spent in the summer on attack minded players, this has had a positive impact on their general play, scoring 26 goals this season, four more than this time last season, under David Moyes. However, the same can't be said for Liverpool, with the absence of Sturridge and poor form of Balotelli seeing them score 12 less this term than at this point last year.
United are boosted by the return of defenders Phil Jones and Rafael, however, fellow defender Luke Shaw as well as Daley Blind and Angel di Maria still remain on the sidelines. Despite having two cracked ribs, Adam Lallana is expected to be available for the match as is Kolo Toure.
Facts
- This is the 191st meeting between the two clubs, Man United winning 75 of the ties, Liverpool 64 and 51 draws.
- There have been 15 red cards in the Premier League meetings; only Liverpool v Everton has produced more (20).
- Robin Van-Persie has scored six goals in his last nine league appearances against the Reds.
- Liverpool hold the second worst away goals conceded record in the Premier League this season, letting in 13 in 7 matches at an average of 1.87 goals per game.
My prediction
Liverpool are all over the place defensively at the moment, and Man United have only failed to score in seven matches in 2014. I think it'll be 3-1 Man United.
