With an emphatic New Year's day victory against Dundee proving to be an ideal start to 2015, next up in the footballing calendar is a trip to Glasgow in which United face a talented but inconsistent Partick Thistle side.
The Terrors will go into this game high in confidence after Thursday’s victory that not only supplied 8 goals but also saw a real clinical edge to United’s play. Also on New Year's day, Thistle’s home match against Celtic was postponed two hours before kick off due to a waterlogged pitch, therefore not allowing them to make amends from their 1-0 defeat to Motherwell only five days earlier.
When the two sides last met in October, Nadir Ciftci’s converted penalty six minutes from time handed United the three points in a closely fought match.
In last season's meetings between Thistle and United, it was United who had the upper hand, winning comfortably in the two home matches whilst drawing both games at Sunday’s venue, Firhill.
Callum Morris looks likely to miss the match after an Achilles injury sustained in the defeat against St Johnstone. Although midfielder Paul Paton returns from suspension, Mario Bilate and John Souttar are still out both suffering from hamstring problems.
Whilst Ryan Stevenson's return to form has proved to be vital for the west end of Glasgow club, Kallum Higginbotham, Gary Fraser, Abdul Osman, Sean Welsh and Jordan MacMillan are all absent for Thistle.
With an exciting performance in the derby as well as discounted prices for all season ticket holders, Sunday afternoon looks set to be another exciting encounter and also an opportunity for McNamara’s men to narrow the gap at the top of the table.
Come on United!!
