Sources suggest that today Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell will complete his Sunderland medical and sign for the Northern English club on a reported three year deal.
The 23 year old had featured in only sixteen games for City since his twelve million signing from Everton in the summer of 2012. Recurring hamstring injuries have held Rodwell back from making any real impact to Pellegrini’s talented squad.
City have agreed a fee with Sunderland that will see them receive 10 million for the Southport born midfielder.
Rodwell has appeared for the England national team on three occasions since making his debut against Spain in November 2011, coming off the bench for Manchester United’s Phil Jones in the fifty-eighth minute.
Sunderland fan Paul Reynolds commented on Rodwell’s signing, “I think he’s a good signing. He can revive his career with us and recapture his Everton form.”
Ever since Rodwell made his Everton debut aged sixteen years and two hundred days old, he has been seen as a fantastic young player, with bags of potential. Now aged twenty-three, he will be hoping to kick on his career at the stadium of Light and change his “decent young player” tag to “a good midfielder reaching at his prime.”
Like many, I believe if Rodwell keeps fit he will be a brilliant signing for a improving Sunderland side, who I believe can potentially finish in the top ten and win some silverware this season.
