This afternoon, Newcastle United confirmed the loan signing of Shaktar Dontesk’s Facunda Ferreyra.
The 23 year old striker will join the Magpies today on a season long loan, with Donetsk giving Newcastle the option to buy Ferreyra permanentely at the end of the 2014-15 campaign. The loan deal has been accepted after Ferreyra stated he did not want to return to the Ukraine due to the political instability in the country.
The Argentine under 20 is blessed with brilliant strength, awareness and a real eye for goal. Last season with the Donetsk club, Ferreyra made only eight appearances in all competitions, although, he scored a respectable six goals given his handful of opportunities.
Ferreyra trained this morning with the rest of the Newcastle United squad in Germany before their final Schalke 04 cup fixture against the hosts.
Ferreyra described signing for the Magpies, “I’m very pleased to sign for Newcastle United. I like the Premier League and when I knew that Newcastle were interested in me it was an easy option.”
The Argentine forward becomes Pardrew’s seventh summer signing following De Joong, Riviere, Cabella, Perez, Janmaat and Colback. Pardew seemed happy to sign up Ferreyra when he commented in his press conference “Facundo is someone we know on a number of levels, including his friendship with Fabricio (Coloccini), and we think he’ll be a big success here at Newcastle. He has tremendous potential and hopefully he can realise that here at Newcastle United.”
All of Newcastle United fans will be hoping that Facunda Ferreyra will become that clinical, ruthless and attacking threat that United have been lacking ever since Demba Ba’s departure to Chelsea.
