Southampton FC 2014/15 Home Kit Unveiled
#TheStripesAreBack
This season the Southampton FC kit returns to its traditional red and white striped shirt after a three-year absence, with many fans pleased to see a return for the iconic strip that with it comes with so much history.
Due to the termination of their long-term Addidas contract this season’s Southampton FC kit is made-in-house, meaning the strip has been designed and manufactured by the club its self. It is believed that the relationship of Southampton FC and Addidas broke down at the start of last season when Southampton executive chairman Nicola Cortese felt Addidas had over charged the club after he had spotted an identical plain shirt to Saints but without the club logo and sponsorship on sale for around £10. Southampton priced their kit at £49.99 due to the price of creating the kit. However, Bristol City with an almost identical design priced theirs at £39.99.
The UK based manufacturer Veho is the sponsor of the 2014-2015 kits, with the black and white writing bubble font on the chest fitting in well with the rest of the distinctive kit.
Within the two inch red stripes is a tie-patterned black and red striped colour that makes the kit look a modern version of their 2011-2012 kit On the back of the neck of the shirt is embroidered in white the words of “Saints”, a reminder of what the club stands for and its roots.
The shorts are a plain navy black colour, because of no new manufacturer involved in the making of the kit, there is only the Southampton crest at the bottom of the shorts.
Like the red stripes on the shirt the socks are the red and black tie like pattern leading down to the bottom of the calf.
As nice as it is to see a club go back into a classic root, I much preferred last season’s clean, smart and red dominating shirt.
