Suarez set to make Barca debut
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique today revealed that new signing Luis Suarez may play “a few minutes” in a friendly match against Mexican champions Leon on Monday night.
Last month Suarez was given a four-month ban from all footballing activity after biting Italian Centre back Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder. After an appeal made by Barcelona last week, Suarez can now train and take part in friendly matches.
Enrique said earlier, “He’s been working hard when training alone, so I think he can have a few minutes tomorrow in front of fans.”
Since his biting ban Suarez has taken part in two training sessions with his new Barcelona team mates since signing from Liverpool on the 11th of July.
Despite the slight overturn of the decision the Cas ruling still prevents him from playing “organised” games. A full explanation of the ruling will be published at a later date.
Suarez will still have to serve the remaining eight games of his nine match competitive suspension and his Barcelona debut is likely to be at La Liga title rivals Real Madrid on the 26th of October. The Uruguayan is set to be officially unveiled as a Barcelona player tomorrow (Monday) afternoon at the Nou Camp.
