This afternoon Sunderland announced the signing of Brighton winger Will Buckley.
Buckley will join the Black Cats on a three-year deal after the two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee.
The move will see Buckley reunite with his former Brighton manager Gus Poyet, who signed him from Watford in June 2011 for £1m. Buckley went on to make more than 100 appearances for the seagulls, while scoring 19 goals in all competitions.
The general feeling amongst Black Cats fans is that they have signed a relatively unknown silky winger who can give them good delivery from the flanks. At times last season, Sunderland built their attacking very centrally, lacking width, something that should change with Buckley’s signing.
Buckley signing sees him become Sunderland’s seventh summer signing after the capture of Jack Rodwell, Costel Pantillimon, Jordi Gomez, Billy Jones, Patrick van Aaanholt and Santiago Vergini. Sunderland fans will be hoping these signings prove to be worthwhile when they play their first game of the 2014-15 season away to West Brom on Saturday.
