young players to watch out for in the Scottish Premiership this season
Part 1:
Craig Wighton
It may be the tangerine side of Dens road who are building the reputation of a club full of talented youngsters, however, at Dens park this season watch out for 17 year old striker Craig Wighton.
Wighton choose Dundee FC over city rivals Dundee United aged just nine. He later revealed that his dad wouldn’t talk to him if he had chosen United. It was then Dundee manager Barry Smith who had noticed the "scrawny kid playing for Dryburgh Athletic in the rain."
Wighton is another technically gifted player to have learnt and played in the Ian Cathro clinic in Dundee along with Ryan Gauld, John Souttar and Scott Smith.
Last October Wighton made his debut for Dundee as an 81st minute substitute in a 2-0 victory over Cowdenbeath.
Ever since his debut, Wighton has continued to make appearances for Dundee mostly off the bench.
Wighton looks set to continue his development in the Scottish Premiership this season and is looking as if he could be one of the league’s top players in the 2015-16 season.
Wighton is a skilful striker who can cause damage with his pace and direct running. He looks as if he’d be easily knocked off the ball, however, despite a slight frame he is a fairly powerful player. He has all the tools to be a top player.
After Wighton’s first Scottish Premiership goal against Partick Thistle, he signed a contract that will keep him with Dundee until May 2017.
